Getting ready for the Big Night!

Well, you can imagine that planning was half the fun!  Of course we used Balloons Tomorrow for all our customized party products--they love to make happy customers!!  And I had some special ideas to make the night seem really authentic and they came through beautifully!  Custom banners and napkins, balloons and drop net for our balloon drop at midnight and for decorations plus much more made everything super special.  I used the local dollar store to get great looking table decorations, and re-arranged my furniture to make the most of our space.  It was a little tiny splurge, but renting matching plates for dinner and table linens at the local party store to really make the "restaurant" look elegant.  Thanks to my hubby for all his muscle and help with his own personal to-do list!  Writing out a list is the best thing when you are planning a big event: my neighbor Joe Parisi was amazed when he saw my last day "schedule."  He should have seen the complete set!  But with a busy lifestyle, knowing how to use my time saves lots of minutes when it would be easy to get distracted with Facebook or writing a blog!  See what I mean?!

The beginning of an idea

So what you may not know about our New Year's Eve party is that this was an idea I had for years.  Lynn and I always thought this would be a great gathering, and so when we were looking for something fun to plan for this year's party it seemed like just the ticket!
Our first Murder Mystery Dinner was in Rock Island, IL and was performed by the local theatre group.  Professional actors entertained us at a banquet dinner, and we were just spectators.  But when I realized, thanks to Google, that there are kits out there that you can use to have your own murder-mystery dinner, I knew that we would have to do it!
Dinnerandamurder.com is just one of many sites that offer pre-packaged kits to host a murder-mystery dinner.  And Murder at the Four Deuces was just perfect for our group of friends: it had the right number of key players, optional extra cast members, and un-scripted parts with period costumes was a great combination.
So about 2 months before the big night we sent out invitations to see if anyone was interested in planning 2 months ahead for New Years' Eve.  And we were off!  We included an RSVP card and gave people the option to be in the cast or just be a spectator.  Turns out it was about half and half!  So there are other crazies out there who were willing to go along with this for the fun of it!
